Chegubard vows to keep up fight against Azmin

KUALA LUMPUR: Suspended PKR life member Badrul Hisham Shaharin has pledged to continue exposing the wrongdoings of Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali even if it means being locked up by the authorities again.

Better known as Chegubard, Badrul said that he is willing to be put behind bars for fighting corruption.

“I have been in and out of detention for 37 times since Tun’s (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) era. I had been handcuffed in front of my students in school.

“I have been charged in various courts across the country. I don’t think this (prison sentence) will be a problem,” said Badrul in an exclusive interview with Berita Daily on Tuesday.

He was commenting on the police investigation against him for breaching the Official Secrets Act (OSA) by alleging that the award of logging contracts for land clearing in Selangor was not done via an open tender.

While admitting that it is the right of the state government to award logging contracts to any companies, Badrul said the issue he was highlighting was that the tender was not given through open tender.

The former Rembau PKR division chief also slammed Azmin, his nemesis in the party, for allegedly lying by claiming that the tender to clear land was given via open tender and that he has nothing to do with the contracts.

“I have documents from the Forestry Department that are submitted to the MMKN (state exco) for approval.

“Azmin said that he has nothing to do with the clearing project, but the one who chaired the MMKN is Azmin,” he said.

Badrul said that three companies have been given the contracts for land clearing at two sites in the state.

“One of the companies is indirectly related to a PKR member while another one is an enterprise company.

“How can an enterprise company land a multi-million (ringgit) project. It doesn’t make sense,” said the former PKR central committee member.

Badrul also chided Azmin for hiding behind the decision made by the Dewan Negeri on his previous allegation pertaining to two mega projects by state government, the RM9.8 million Kota Darul Ehsan arch facelift and the RM32.4 million mosque dome renovation.

“The excuse given was that it was approved by the state legislative assembly. So, can’t we question the decision? GST (goods and services tax) and MKN (National Security Council) was approved by Dewan (Rakyat) but why are we fighting against them?

“Are we sending the message that if it was approved by the House we can’t fight against it? It portrays a politician obsessed with power and contradicts and shames the reform movement,” he said.

On March 1, Badrul was suspended for a second time by PKR for "shaming" the party in his relentless attack against Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president.

The Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) founder also said that he is consulting his lawyer after being served with a Section 111 notice regarding the OSA documents that he revealed at a press conference recently.
